Development of
multifunctional anti-HIV and anti-cancer agents
The purpose of this project is to develop multifunctional anti-HIV or anticancer agents by
covalently conjugating several biologically active compounds. The
hypothesis underlying this proposal is that safe, potent, and
broad-spectrum multifunctional anti-HIV or anti-cancer agents can be
designed to deliver and release different active compounds intracellularly
at the same time. Furthermore, development of resistance to several active
drugs would occur at a much slower rate than to either compound alone. The
focus will be on designing protein kinase inhibitors, nucleoside analogs,
and fatty acid conjugates.
