Actions of hormones and nutrients on the heart
The investigation of the actions of hormones and nutrients on the heart. The laborartory has found that the hormone glucagon, as well as the nutrient carnitine, produces insulin-like metabolic effects on the heart. Current investigations are focused on studying the mechanisms whereby glucagon and carnitine stimulate glucose utilization by the isolated, perfused rat heart, which is an established experimental model of the human heart.
