Plants have
been used as traditional medicines for centuries and have provided
several modern chemotherapeutic drugs such as Taxol (Paclitaxel).
Currently, there are a number of un-investigated New England plants
which offer an exciting source for the discovery of new drugs. The
objective of this project will be to conduct a comprehensive
phytochemical examination of a plant extract using state-of-the art
chemistry instrumentation. All isolates will be screened in
antioxidant and cell culture anticancer bioassays. This project may
result in the identification of new medicinally useful compounds. |
