Bioactive natural products from maple species

Over the past few years our laboratory has been involved in the discovery of natural compounds from endemic North American plant species. So far, we have isolated and identified several known and new compounds which show antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-diabetic activities in laboratory assays. In continuation of this research, we have collected several plants which were utilized by the Native Americans for medicinal purposes. Thus, this project will focus on the isolation, identification and biological evaluation of plant compounds. This project has great potential for the discovery of new drug molecules with medicinal values.
