General Information Session (GIS)

All students are required to complete a Study Abroad General Information Session (GIS) before scheduling an appointment with a Study Abroad Advisor to learn about the study abroad process, about URI's policies related to study abroad and the off-campus opportunities available to URI students.

There are two ways to complete a GIS:

  • Attend a GIS
The URI Office of International Education staff conducts several GIS sessions throughout the academic year. These presentations are approximately 30-60 minutes in length and are presented in the Study Abroad Resource Room in Room 107, Taft Hall. No reservation is required, just show up. Times and dates of these sessions can be found on the OIE web calendar.

  • Complete a GIS On-line
The URI Office of International Education's also provides the option of completing the Study Abroad GIS on-line. This is a self-directed on-line presentation that covers the same information covered in the presentations provided by the OIE Staff. It is imperative that students who complete the GIS via our web page to submit the on-line Student Information Form at the end of the presentation. Click here to complete the on-line GIS. Note: Requires Internet Explorer.
