The Big Event is an annual destination-themed festival, geared towards raising a greater awareness of International opportunities here at the University of Rhode Island.

The goal of this event is to promote Global Citizenry and culture sharing by highlighting an international destination/region on the URI campus. The Office of International Education and National Student Exchange encourage involvement from students, Faculty Staff, and the community to exhibit, share, learn and celebrate different cultures.

This year, we've partnered up with the Memorial Union Board to bring together The Big Event: Brazilian Block Party!

Here are some highlights throughout the day:

  • $2000 AIFS Scholarship Giveaway
  • Brazilian food (Salgadinhos, Docinhos, and Guarana)
  • Brazilian carnival mask making
  • Tropical plants info and plant sale
  • Traditional Samba dancers
  • Brazilian Jazz
  • Traditional Brazilian performances
  • and much more!
