Program Not Running in 2016

For students enrolled in the rigourous five-year dual Bachelor degree International Engineering and International Business Programs, it is crucial to get some short-term immersion experience in the country in which they will spend their senior year. This program will allow students to experience the context of the French language and engineering/business studies. Furthermore, it will give students the opportunity to explore the culture, technology environment and communicate with their budding language skills.

During the program, students will be enrolled in LET 151 - Contemporary France (3 credits), focusing on institutions, traditions and issues in France today. Interested students may earn an additional one credit in FRN 318 - French Across the Curriculum.

Course work will be supplemented with cultural tours and excursions while in France including: a day trip to Paris, where students will have the opportunity to visit Musee des Arts et Metiers. The Chateau de Compiegne, Pierrefonds and other famous monuments. Students will go on site visits to Schneider Electric, to Total’s corporate headquarters in La Defense, to one of Total’s refineries, to a Technip facility in Le Trait, and to the corporate headquarters of Vinci Construction. Students will also explore the Universite de Technologie de Compiegne where they will meet students, see classrooms, and discover laboratories.

The URI French Winter J Term Program will take place in Compiegne.
