Prepare for Arrival

The University of Rhode Island (URI), chartered in 1888, began as the state agricultural school. Today, a land-and-sea-grant public university, URI has grown into a major research institution, offering over 80 undergraduate majors to over 14,600 enrolled undergraduate students. With over 100 majors and minors, you are sure to find courses of relevance for your academic and personal aspirations.

URI’s main campus, located on a beautiful 1,200-acre rural property in the historic village of Kington, Rhode Island (pop. 23,000) in the southern part of the Ocean State, offers a spacious campus that includes a quadrangle of handsome old granite buildings surrounded by modern academic buildings and residence halls. The local area is rich in colonial history and the village of Kingston itself is a national historic monument. View details and interactive maps of the URI campuses.

Getting Around

Take advantage of URI’s campus shuttle, Rhode Island’s Public Transportation system (RIPTA), and the Kingston Amtrak station (just minutes down the road from campus!). Rhode Island may be the smallest state, but it’s easy to navigate—and from our vantage point, there’s plenty to discover no matter what path you follow.

URI’s campus is conveniently located near Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport.
