Study Abroad Scholarships

This is not an exhaustive list and many study abroad programs have established scholarships not indicated below. Program participants should always ask the representatives of their study abroad program about student scholarships.

URI Scholarships

The scholarships below are available to URI students and administered by the Office of Internartional Education.

 

Academic Programs International (API) Affiliate Scholarship

Awarded to URI students participating on an API program. Award amount: $500-$1000. Merit and need based scholarships. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Deadline: March 1 (summer); May 1 (fall or academic year); October 1 (spring)

 

Accademia Italiana Affiliate Scholarship

Awarded to URI students participating on an Accademia Italiana semester program. Award amount: $600. Merit and need based scholarships. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Deadline: May 1 (fall or academic year); October 1 (spring)

 

Denmark's International Study (DIS) Affiliate Scholarship

For all URI students participating on a DIS Program. Award amount: $2,000 academic semester, $300 summer program. Automatic fee reduction upon admission to program.


         GlobaLinks (AsiaLearn, AustraLearn, EuroLearn) $1000 Affiliate Scholarship

Awarded to a URI student participating on a Globalinks semester or academic year stuyad abroad program. Award amount: $1,000. Merit and need based scholarship. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Deadline: May 1 (fall or academic year); October 1 (spring)

 

GlobaLinks (AsiaLearn, AustraLearn, EuroLearn) $500 Affiliate Scholarship

Awarded to a URI student participating on a Globalinks semester or academic year stuyad abroad program. Award amount: $500. Merit and need based scholarship. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Deadline: May 1 (fall or academic year); October 1 (spring)


GlobaLinks (AustraLearn, Australia Only) $1,500 Travel Grant

Awarded each semester to a URI student participating on a Globalinks semester or academic year study abroad program in Australia. Award amount: $1,500. Merit and need based scholarship.

Application: Students must apply through the standard Globalinks Learning Abroad scholarship application process.

GlobaLinks Affiliate Program Fee Reduction

For all URI students participating on a GlobaLinks semester/acadmic year program (except EuroScholars research option): $500 off the GlobaLinks published program fee. Automatic fee reduction upon admission to applicable GlobaLinks program.

 

InterStudy Affiliate Scholarship

Awarded to URI student participating on an academic year or semester InterStudy program. Award amount: $1,000. Merit and need based. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Office of International Education Global Citizen Scholarship

Awarded to any URI student participating in the annual Big International Event. Student needs to be participating in a study abroad semester or academic year abroad program Award amount: $150.

Phi Eta Sigma Study Abroad

Phi Eta Sigma member; current undergraduate student; demonstrated financial need; willing to share study abroad experience with other Phi Eta Sigma members.

Sky Pardee Memorial Scholarship

Only awarded to URI student participating on the AIFS Richmond University, London semester program. Award amount: Varies. Merit and need based scholarships. Preference given to a URI student who is a resident of Maine.

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) Affiliate Scholarship

Awarded to URI students participating on an academic year or semester TEAN program. Award amount: $500 - $1,000. Merit and need based scholarships. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA.

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) - Fiji Travel Grant

Only awarded to URI students participating on an academic year or semester TEAN-Bond University program. Award: Travel grant for Fiji pre-semester excursion.

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) - Semester Affiliate Scholarship

For all URI students participating on a TEAN full semester program. Automatic fee reduction of $350 off the TEAN published program fee upon admission to program.

 

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) - Summer Affiliate Scholarship

TEAN Summer Program in Thailand - For all URI students enrolled in 1 module for 3 weeks, 3 credits: Automatic fee reduction of $200 off the TEAN published program fee upon admission to program.

TEAN Summer Program in Thailand - For all URI students enrolled in 2 module for 6 weeks, 6 credits: Automatic fee reduction of $400 off the TEAN published program fee upon admission to program.

TEAN Summer Internship in Australia or China - For all URI students enrolled in a summer internship in Australia or China: Automatic fee reduction of $400 off the TEAN published program fee upon admission to program

 

URI Faculty-Led Programs Scholarship

Awarded to URI students participanting in a URI Faculty-Led Winter or Summer Program.

Application: Available Now

Deadline: May 1 (Summer Program); December 1 (Winter Program)

 

URI Feinstein Providence Campus - Student Govenrment Board Scholarship

The Student Government Board of the University of Rhode Island Feinstein Providence Campus makes funds available to CCE students participating in URI travel prograsm for acadmic credit. These funds are intended to assist some of the travel expenses incurred.

Deadline: Available on a first-come, first-serve basis

 

URI/Seinan Gakuin (SGU) Exchange Scholarship

Only awarded to URI students studying at SGU. Award: SGU tuition.

Rhode Island and Regional Scholarships

There are private organizations in the region that coordinate international study scholarships for students. Students would need to apply directly to the scholarship coordinators.

 

Beatrice S. Demers Foreign Language Fellows Program

Rhode Island residents and anyone who is a student at a Rhode Island college or university who wishes to pursue foreign language study. Preference will be given to applicants from the University of Rhode Island who meet qualifications.

New England-China Scholarship Program

The scholarships provide New England students with the opportunity to spend up to a year abroad in China studying the language, experiencing another culture and visiting world-famous landmarks. Tuition and fees are covered by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission

 

Providence Branch of the English-Speaking Union

Elisha Mowry Scholarship for study in the United Kingdom or Ireland. Open to sophomores and juniors concentrating in any humanities discipline at colleges and universities in Rhode Island. For complete details and application instructions, click here.

 

Swedish Women’s Educational Association International, (SWEA) - Boston Chapter

Awards for well-merited female undergraduate students at a New England university for studies in Sweden.

Boren Awards for International Study

Supports graduate and undergraduate students studying languages, cultures and world areas critical to U.S. interests.

 

Critical Language Scholarship Program

A program of United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program will offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in thirteen critical need foreign languages for summer 2011. The selection process will be administered by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The CLS Program will be administered by CAORC and the American Councils for International Education.

 

DAAD

DAAD offers scholarships to students and scholars for study and research opportunities in Germany.

 

DiversityAbroad.Com Partner Scholarships

DiversityAbroad.com has partnered with several organizations to offer study abroad grants and scholarships. Multiple scholarships and grants are available.

 

Freeman Asia Scholarships

Scholarships for US undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

 

Gilman Scholarship

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

 

 IIEPassport Study Abroad Funding

Hosted by the Institute of International Education (IIE), this web directory features detailed descriptions of hundreds of study abroad scholarships, fellowships, grants, and paid internships for U.S. undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students, and professionals.

 

Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship Grant

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by study abroad. Multiple $1,000 grants are available.

 

Rotary International

Ambassadorial scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies.
