URI One-Way Study Abroad Programs

Bermuda

Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences - BIOS

Coral reefs, sea grass beds, and mangrove regions are just minutes from BIOS in St. George, Bermuda. Students receive two formal courses during the first ten weeks, followed by four weeks of intensive research conducted under he supervision of BIOS staff.

Eligibility Requirements
2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Junior or Senior standing
Working towards a Bachelor of Science to Working towards a degree in Marine Biology

Tuition and Expenses*

  • Program fees include tuition, fees, room and board $15,500
  • Off-campus fee $336
  • OCS Tution fee $1,300
  • Administrative fee $350
  • Insurance $973**

*NOTE:Fees are subject to change
**May be waived with proof of own insurance and completion of waiver form

Room and Board

  • BIOS provides full meal service in a cafeteria with both inside and alfresco seating
  • Rooms are generally twins with shared bathrooms and halls

  • Marine Invertebrate Zoology
  • Coral Reef Ecology
  • Tropical Oceanography
  • Marine Biology and Oceanographic Research

Additional Information

  • Students are strongly encouraged to get basic scuba certification prior to coming to Bermuda
  • Students will also need to purchase diving insurance
  • Student earn URI credit and grades, not transfer credit
