URI Internship Program Information
Academic Requirements
- 2.5 GPA or higher
- Minimum 60 credits prior to internship start date
- 300+ level free elective credits available (meet with academic advisor to determine)
- Good academic and social standing.
General Information
- Internships are offered in the fall, spring and summer
- Internships are available in virtually every field
- Students may intern anywhere in the U.S.
- Students can choose an internship from the RhodyNET database.
- Students can also create their own internship with the departments guidance.
- Over 600 placement sites are available in Rhode Island
Credits & Hours
The internship program consists of two components: the 6-12 credit field experience and the required 3-credit internship seminar. Grading: students receive a satisfactory or unsatisfactory grade for the field experience and a letter grade for the seminar.
Each student participating in an internship completes approximately 35 hours per credit.

Internship Seminar
Students will enroll in a 3-credit seminar taken concurrently with their field experience. The Internship Seminar focuses on the intern's learning experience, professional and career development, and preparation for graduate studies.
Some of the topics covered in seminar:
- 5 Stages of the Internship
- Communication in the workplace
- Cover letter and resume writing workshops
- Professional portfolio development
- Informational Interview: Analyzing, researching,and reflecting on a future career or graduate studies

- Fill out an Application
You can find the application online or stop by room 139 Roosevelt Hall, once you have completed the application, you can attend an information session.
- Attend an Information Session
Information Sessions are held daily at 1:00 P.M. in the Roosevelt Hall first floor lounge. The purpose of the information session is to provide information about the URI Internship program and research internship possibilities. Each session lasts approximately 30minutes. At this session you will learn everything you need to know to become a part of the URI Intern Program!

Visit our Resource Room in Roosevelt Hall or click on https://www.myinterfase.com/uri/student/home.aspx to log into RhodyNET and begin exploring our numerous placement sites. Also visit the OIEE website to search current opportunities http://www.uri.edu/internships/explore.
Peruse our binders and indexes, explore on-line, and read what past interns said about their experiences, to find the internships you like best. Stop by any time Monday – Friday, between 8:30am – 4:30pm. We’re here to help!
- The Individual Appointment
After you have secured a placement site, make an appointment in Roosevelt Hall, to meet with an Intern Advisor. If you have any difficulty locating the right internship for you, stop by the office for some advisement. Your individual appointment is spent exploring your internship possibilities and confirming your placement site of interest. At this final meeting, you will schedule your seminar location and time, and receive a registration override. This is your time to get answers, guidance, and advice.
