Internships allow a student to put classroom learning into practical experiences. They provide students with a supportive environment to explore career opportunities, test career goals, enhance professional skills, develop self-reliance, self-esteem, and responsibility. Furthermore, internships encourage networking with professionals, and give students increased marketability for that competitive edge for employment after graduation or pursuing graduate studies.

Internships are available during the Fall and Spring semesters for 13 weeks. URI offers many exciting and enriching internship experiences for the summer and - perhaps best of all- it is a great cost saving opportunity.  During the 10 week summer session, students can have an internship in their field for reduced tuition (program fee adjusted yearly, 401-874-2160 for details), while earning valuable credits toward graduation.  They may even be able to graduate early.  In addition to the 6, 9 or 12 credits they earn for the internship, they will also be enrolled for 3 credits in the required professional development seminar that complements the learning experience at their placement site.  This seminar is web-based, so students can complete internships virtually anywhere in the country.

The requirements to participate in the program are Junior or Senior status, which means 60+ credits earned and a minimum 2.5 GPA. In order to begin the process, students should visit our website at http://www.uri.edu/internships and complete the on-line application within the student section.
