Step-By-Step

Internship Step-By-Step Process For Students

Note: You are free to meet with an OIEE Intern Advisor prior to Step 6. We’re here to help!

Step 1
Complete online application and attend an Info Session (held daily at 1:00 P.M.).

Step 2
Meet with an academic advisor to determine your amount of available free electives

Step 3
Search for Internship

    • RhodyNet -- Internship database through Career Services (See below)

      • Access anytime / anywhere for all URI students
    • OIEE Resource Room
      • Placement binders (also in RhodyNet)
    • Search on your own
      • Personal contacts, Internet, phone book, etc.
    • Use our Internships.com listing.
      • Click "Students"
      • Click the dropdown listing and highlight "University of Rhode Island"
      • Enter in our promotional code -- "rhodyinternships"
    • Visit the OIEE website http://www.uri.edu/internships/explore
      to explore current internship opportunities”

Step 4
Apply/Interview for positions and ask yourself:

    • Is this an opportunity that will help me further my career goals?
    • Is this a supervisor I could learn from and work well with?
    • Does this environment suit my personality and will I enhance my skills?
    • Do I feel safe in the environment?
    • Will I have an adequate amount of work to do and will I enjoy the work?
    • Do I agree with the goals and mission of the agency?
    • Am I accepting this internship because it was the first offer?
    • Am I selecting this internship for the right reasons?

Step 5
Accept an internship position and ask your placement supervisor to complete paperwork:

Call the OIEE (401) 874-2160 to schedule a registration appointment. Please be sure to bring your supervisor paperwork as well as your driver’s license and your car insurance to the appointment.

    • Advisement: Discuss career plan, academic plan, credit options, receive help, etc.
    • Registration: Receive permission numbers/paperwork to register for credits/seminar

Step 7
Register for credits

    • Fall/Spring: E-campus using permission numbers
    • Summer: Registration/Payment form mailed to Providence campus
RhodyNet Directions
    1: Go to Career Services' main webpage, http://career.uri.edu, and click on the word "Students" above the RhodyNet oval. You must be a current URI student to use this system.

    2: If you are a first time user on RhodyNet, click on the "Click Here to Register" link below the login boxes.

    3: Fill out your profile (including all required * fields), create a personalized, case-sensitive username and password, enter your 9-digit PeopleSoft ID and click the "Register" button.
