Helpful Links International Undergraduate Admission Process, click here The process of becoming an international student, international visiting professor and/or research scholar may take several months to be completed. The process flows smoothly when the applicant submits all the information, forms, and funds required to the respective offices and departments. The definition of a international student (F-1/J-1) according to the Department of Homeland Security, is “an alien having a residence in a foreign country which he has no intention of abandoning, who is a bona fide student qualified to pursue a full course of study and who seeks to enter the United States temporarily and solely for the purpose of pursuing such a course of study.” The Office of International Students and Scholars is responsible for issuing the immigration forms (I-20/F1 or DS-2019/J1) international students, research scholars, professors (and their dependents) must take to a US consulate abroad to obtain a visa to enter the US. The forms are issued only after the student/scholar/professor has provided OISS with all required financial /source of funding information. The Office is not responsible for admitting the students/scholars/researchers, etc. to URI. Undergraduate and graduate applicants should note that the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) does not grant admissions but immigration support documents. URI faculty and staff should be aware that international students must:
