F-1 / J-1 Student
PART-TIME INFORMATION
If you are currently
below a full course of study, your F-1/J-1 status might be in jeopardy.
Full-time registration at URI means a minimum of:
- 12 credits for ALL undergraduate students
- 9 credits for ALL graduate students who
DO NOT have an assistantship for Spring 2005
- 6 credits for ALL graduate students who
HAVE an assistantship for Spring 2005
Any student registered for a number of credits
below that specified above is perceived as having registered for
a part-time semester without the appropriate permission.
Learn about the ONLY acceptable reasons
to request part-time with our office for graduates and undergraduates.
If your part-time semester is not approved your status will be automatically
terminated without further notice form our office.
It is the student's responsibility to submit a request for part-time
in a timely manner.
If your status is automatically terminated you will need to apply
for reinstatement
Dear Undergraduate Student,
It is mandatory for our office to report on the
registration records of all F and J students to the United States
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). As you are well aware
by now, all students must pursue a full-course of study at this
university at all times. In order to avoid the automatic invalidation
of your immigration records you MUST register for the prescribed
full course load:
-Undergraduate students 12 credits
OR;
-If you are an UNDERGRADUATE student in the FINAL
semester, your academic advisor or Dean of the college must recommend
you for part-time using the Reduced
Course Load form.
If you are currently part-time without permission,
do not disregard this notice, as it will only jeopardize your status.
If you loose your immigration status, you will need to be reinstated
back to your original immigration status. Such procedure is processed
ONLY by USCIS and may or may not be granted. To avoid losing
your status you must register full-time or provide proof that your
part-time request has been approved. There is no exception to this
rule!
