We welcome all international undergraduate students to register for one the URI New Student Orientation sessions that take place in June.
Please note the following visa considerations:
- If you are not already in the United States, secure a tourist visit to attend a URI Orientation session in June.
You will need to exit the US and reenter with the F1/J1 visa. - If you already have a tourist visa that permits you to remain in the US prior to the start of school, you will still need to exit the US and reenter with the F-1/J-1 visa.
- Unless you planned to enroll for classes (summer session 1 or 2), your student visa (F1/J1) will not be issued by the US State Department more than 1 month prior to the start of your studies (fall semester).
Typically the New Student Orientation events include an overview of University services and academics, ways to get involved at URI, and registration.
