Welcome to URI as International Students and Scholars


 

When you arrive at URI as an international student (F1 visa status) or a scholar (J1 visa status), you must come the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) to confirm your arrival and current address. Before coming to the OISS, we suggest that you download and complete the registration form.

Important: You must attend the Welcome Orientation at OISS!

If you are an international student at another university and want to transfer to URI, you need to complete and submit the the Transfer Form, along with the additional necessary documentation, to the OISS.

International Student Orientation

           Graduate, Undergraduate & Exchange Students

Place: International Center, 37 Lower College Road

The Office of International Students & Scholars is responsible for providing a mandatory New International Student Orientation to facilitate your transition into academic and immigration life at the University of Rhode Island.

  • NEWLY admitted international students MUST REPORT to the Office of International Students & Scholars within 30 days of the beginning date noted on their I-20 or DS-2019.
  • TRANSFER students must report to the OISS 15 days prior to the beginning of classes.
  • Failure to report to the Office of International Students and Scholars is considered a VIOLATION of your student status by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
