Statistical Software Site Licenses: No.61, November 2007
Information Technology Services (ITS) has an annual SAS and SPSS site license (SAS for Windows or Linux, SPSS for Windows or MAC). These software packages provide tools for data management, data retrieval, report writing, file conversion, and statistical analysis.
Eligibility
SAS:
URI full-time faculty, staff, and graduate students may install a copy of the software at no charge.
SPSS:
URI full-time faculty and staff may install a copy of the software at no charge; students need to purchase the SPSS Grad Pack form RAM Computers.
ITS will provide yearly renewal information and updates. The original agreements may be updated as new software libraries are purchased. ITS retains the right to charge a nominal update fee in the future. Presently, no such fee is planned.
In the event that the customer leaves the University or that the agreement between URI and SAS Institute or SPSS Inc. is terminated, distributed versions of the software must be returned or destroyed as specified by SAS Institute and SPSS Inc.

Obtaining SAS and SPSS
- Fill out the on-line form. The form contains the conditions for using the product and needs to be completed for each workstation licensed. If the software is to be installed on a local network server, each attached workstation must be licensed separately, in addition to the server device. Make sure all fields are filled in, including the physical location and the serial number of the workstation on which the software will reside.
- Print it out first, and then
- Click the Submit button
- Sign the printed form
Software:
The coordinator, Christian Vye, cvye@uri.edu or 874-2966, 210 Flagg Road, Office 135, will respond to your request. When you come to pick up the software, bring your signed copy of the on-line form (including the serial number of the workstation on which the software will reside), and he will loan you a CD-ROM containing the software. Please return the CD-ROM within five business days! You may check it out again should your hardware fail, your PC be upgraded, etc.
Annual Renewal Code:
You are required to apply annually for the renewal code necessary to continue using the software. The code is maintained at the SAS and SPSS Intranet address.
Documentation
ITS maintains a link to on-line documentation for SAS. Manuals can be purchased at the software vendor's Web-site: http://www.sas.com. SPSS documentation is provided on a CD-ROM and the PDF files can be copied to your computer.
