Electronic Information Services

ITS is responsible for developing and maintaining electronic information sources.

Electronic Mail

ITS manages the mail server for URI. Browse the E-Mail section for more information. Call or visit the Help Desk if you have any questions.

NetNews

NetNews is a world-wide facility for the distribution of large volumes of information on a wide variety of topics. In order to access NetNews, newsreader software is required. Since a variety of newsreaders is available, users are advised to check with the Help Desk to determine which software is supported.

URI faculty, staff, and officers of recognized student organizations are eligible to add a local newsgroup. To establish a new local newsgroup, complete handout No. 20, "Newsgroup Application". To access NetNews, point your newsreader to newsserver.uri.edu.

LISTSERV Lists

LISTSERV lists provide a means of engaging multiple individuals in group discussions either within the University or globally via the Internet. LISTSERV lists already exist on a variety of topics but new lists dealing with specific topics can readily be established.

URI faculty, staff, and officers of recognized student organizations are eligible to become list owners. For information on managing a LISTSERV list or establishing a new list, complete handout No. 45, "LISTSERV Mailing List Owner Application and Instructions", which is located in the bins in the lobby of Tyler Hall and at the Help Desk in Library LL19. For information on using LISTSERV, refer to handout No. 46, "LISTSERV User's Guide".
