E-mail Filtering Options

These instructions apply to email accounts on:
  • mail.uri.edu
  • etal.uri.edu

If you receive your e-mail on either of the URI mail servers listed above - that is, your URI e-mail address ends in @mail.uri.edu or @etal.uri.edu - you can choose what you would like done with incoming email that has been tagged as UBE (Unsolicited Bulk Email, also known as SPAM or Junk mail) before it is delivered to your inbox.

The options are:
  1. Filter UBE-tagged messages into a separate mailbox named UBE
  2. Discard all UBE-tagged messages
  3. Disable UBE Filtering

Option 1 is the best choice because your inbox will not fill up with potentially unwanted e-mail but you will still be able to check UBE-tagged messages before you delete them. Occasionally a valid e-mail is mistaken for UBE, and occasionally the reverse also happens.
