This website features the Poverty Point site, one of the most impressive and enigmatic archaeological sites in North America. As students learn about different aspects of archaeological method and theory this semester, they will be able to explore these topics in relation to the Poverty Point site. Although there is no substitute to actually conducting archaeological field and lab work first hand, the information and activities on Poverty Point are designed to give students a better feel for how archaeology actually works. |
Reconstruction by Jon L. Gibson This activity provides more information on the features of the Poverty Point Site. |

The website is made to conform with the new URI web template in Dreamweaver 8. The animation featured here was created using Maya 8 and a greyscale elevation map provided by Poverty Point state park in Louisiana. We expect to create interactive media for the website using Flash 8, 3D scanning for scanning artifacts into Maya 8, and possibly Rapid Prototype printing of 3D models. In addition, video footage was captured in Romania in the summer of 2007, during an archaeological dig by Kristina Golubiewski. The video footage will be used to visualize archaeological methods. A short documentary will give students a feel for what a low budget field experience is like. |
