The work displayed in the Library Gallery represents the work of approximately 60 artist inmates from many securities at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI). The mediums are varied, from charcoal and pastels to watercolors and acrylics. One section of this exhibit is composed of self portraits in collage with personal descriptions by the artists. Some poetry is also included to accompany certain pieces. Some of the work is for sale with proceeds going to the Children’s Make-a-Wish fund and the Victim Restitution Fund.
Marietta Cleasby assembles the work of the artists annually. The entire collection is exhibited each April in the Atrium Gallery of the State Administration Building. Marietta has been teaching art at the ACI for 17 years.
If you are interested in purchasing any of the works indicated by the asterisk (*), leave me a message at 462-2507 and I will return your call. As requested by theses artists, all proceeds will be donated to the Victims’ Restitution Fund and the Make a Wish Foundation of Rhode Island.
