What’s New: Library Exhibits through December 21

The University Library has mounted two complimentary exhibits from November 5 through December 21, 2001.

Nineteenth Century Rhode Island Billheads
In the Library Gallery, we have displayed a survey of billheads from the collection of Mr. Russell DeSimone of Middletown, RI. Mr. DeSimone is the author of Broadsides of the Dorr Rebellion. An exhibition catalogue, with an introductory essay, was recently published by Mr. DeSimone.

Illustrated Letterheads & Billheads in Special Collections
In the Library Lobby, Ms. Leslie Olson, of our Special Collections Department, curated an exhibit “Illustrated Letterheads & Billheads in Special Collections,” culled from our Colt Family Papers and the Records of the Agricultural Experiment Station.

Both of these exhibits document and illustrate how business instruments evolved into effective advertising mediums for local businesses. Those interested in Rhode Island History, business history, and the graphic arts will find something of interest in these displays.
