Statement
My pursuit of art only began about 10 years ago, but has now become
such an integral part of my life, I cant imagine not painting. It has
opened my eyes to so much around me; and, when I travel, its my sketchbook
and paints that I want, rather than my camera.
I enjoy capturing my impressions of the
places I visit, and of people engaged in routine activities. It will never
be my goal to create an image in exact detail, but rather to get to the
heart of my subject and my feelings about it, and to convey to the viewer
what it was that inspired me to paint it.
Each piece is a completely new
adventure. Very often, the end product is quite unexpected, almost as if it
happened in spite of me and my original plans. It is this element of
discovery and surprise that makes the creative process so fascinating.

About
Dianne began as a self-taught acrylic painter doing primarily
decorative art and faux painting. As a result of wanting to accomplish more,
Dianne attended Bristol Community College for a basic drawing course. Upon
moving to Rhode Island, she visited the Wickford Art Festival for the first
time and was subsequently fascinated by oil painting. Dianne then enrolled
in oil painting classes and studied under Nancy Scelsa of the Nancy Stephen
Gallery & School of Art in East Greenwich. She began teaching acrylic,
pastel and egg tempura painting to 6 through 9 year olds at the School and
then worked with adult students in oil. Dianne continues to study oil
painting under Nancy Scelsa. She has also studied Plien Air with Trish
Hurley and E. Principato, glazing techniques with Stephanie Marzella and
pastel with Maurice Turcotte.
