During February and March, the University Libraries Gallery will be displaying First Gear: Infrastructure, an exhibit of sculpture and computer-generated prints by artist Krzysztof Mathews. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, February 10 between 7 and 9 pm.
Artist’s Statement Over the past ten years I have been developing the study of the Endomeq, a biomechanical species with a distinctive culture. Through my sculpture, prints, and stories, I hope to convey a sense of their history, biology, personality and mythology. These characters begin as sculptures made from found materials. Once built, they are then recreated in a 3D computer environment as fully realized virtual models that can be textured, posed, and animated to create stories and still images. Through my prints, I have worked to create a series of portraits that evoke the rich and dynamic character of the many heroes, villains, and supporting characters that make up the mythology of First Gear: Territories ®.
