The February / March 2009 exhibit in the University of Rhode Island Library Gallery is Gulls Gone Wild, paintings, jewelry, and antler sculpture by Jon Campbell.
Jon Campbell is a prolific composer of contemporary Maritime Music based in New England.
A Multi-instrumentalist and reluctant singer, his songs address issues relevant to inhabitants of any of the four coasts (East, West, Gulf, Alaska).
He has been a Rhode Island State Council of the Arts Folk Artist since 1982.
After a long career in the motion picture industry, and as a licensed pyrotechnician and fire marshal, Jon Campbell decided to become a gentleman/painter.
This hasn’t entirely worked out as planned, but as a result there has been produced a significant amount of antler sculpture, stone and silver jewelry, and the occasional painting.
While shunning the traditional Gallery route in bringing his work before the public, preferring to follow some of the more alternative methods, Jon has been shown recently at legitimate venues in Providence and currently in the Library space at URI.
