| To access LexisNexis Congressional, select it from the list of the Library’s databases at http://www.uri.edu/library/reference_databases/title.html. To search, select the link to the category that most closely matches the information you need and then select a sub category if appropriate. The search screen for that category will appear.
|
Enter your topic in the subject or keyword field. Each category's search screen will have a variety of different ways to limit and focus your search. For more information on a specific search screen, click on “help” or “tips” in the upper right corner of the window. After clicking on the “search” button, a list of search results will appear. Depending on the search category, the results will be arranged by date, publication type, bill number, or title keyword relevance. Each entry in the list will include the title, date and a short description of the publication. The “Edit Search” option allows you to refine your search within the results list.

Clicking on a title in the results list brings up the publication. In Congressional Publications files the “publication” will be a summary only, but sometimes the full text will be linked. In the other files, the publication will be full text. |
| To print the publication click on the "printer" icon in the upper left corner. The publication will be redisplayed so that you can print through your web browser. Publications may also be e-mailed to yourself or to someone else by clicking on the "e-mail" button.
You may also select citations from your results for printing e-mail. Click on the check boxes next to those publications in the results list that you want and then click on the "print" or "e-mail" buttons. NOTE: When you print or e-mail the selected publications, you will only get the citation and not the full text, so this function is useful for creating lists, bibliographies, etc. but not for retrieving the actual publication.
