ProQuest Databases

Through the ProQuest interface, researchers at URI can access the databases ABI/INFORM Global and ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry, both of which cover business topics. National Newspapers and the Providence Journal Bulletin are also available through ProQuest. A majority of titles in these ProQuest databases are available online in full-text.

ProQuest databases can be searched by selecting the title of the database from the list of reference databases at http://www.uri.edu/library/ reference_databases/title.html.

For more control over your search, click on the Advanced Search tab at the top of the screen. Advanced Search allows you to limit each search term to a specific search field, such as Company/Org., Product Name, Author, or Subject. (To browse the lists of official terms, use the pull-down menus to change your search option, and click on the Browse Topics link that appears on the right.)  Another search option is Publication Search, which allows you to browse the contents of specific journals.

Search terms may be combined by selecting the appropriate Boolean operator from the drop-down menus to the left of your search terms. For a quick explanation of operators, click on Search Tips above the search blanks, and scroll down to the topic “Operators.”

The results of your search are displayed with the most recent article listed first. Below each citation are icons representing the formats in which the article is available: “Abstract,“ “Full Text,” “Text+Graphics,” and/or “Page Image”. To view the full record for an article, click on the underlined title of the article.

The full record contains the complete citation to the article, the abstract and the full text (if available). Icons above the citation allow you to select “Citation“ or “Page Image” instead of “Full Text.” To print an article, click on the Print button on the left of your screen, then use your browser to print. By clicking on Email, you will be prompted for an e-mail address and be given the choice of sending the article as plain text or as a formatted attachment. You may Mark Articles from your search results list by checking in the box to the right of the Email button. You can then view a list of only the articles you marked by clicking on the green My Research tab at the top of the screen. The My Research List allows you to print your list of citations, e-mail the full text/content of the articles, or export the citations to bibliographic management software.

You can find similar articles to the one (or, more) you found by combining the listed Subjects to create a new search. The terms are automatically combined with the Boolean Operator "AND." For more information about this feature, or, any feature that ProQuest Databases offer, click on the HELP link in the upper right corner of each page (not shown).

Some articles do not have full text in the ProQuest database. To find the full text, click on the Article Linker icon below the citation. The window that appears will provide a link to the full text (if available elsewhere) and a link to the HELIN Library Catalog. If full text is not available, search the HELIN Catalog by Journal ISSN or Title to see if URI or another HELIN library owns this item.
