| WilsonWeb offers
a common interface for searching a number of databases at URI — Art Abstracts,
Biological and Agricultural Index, and Readers’ Guide Retrospective. |
| To access a WilsonWeb database, select it
from the list of Reference Databases at http://www.uri.edu/library/reference_databases/title.html.
When you see the top of the database search screen, make sure the database you need is
checked. Biological and Agricultural Index will be used as an example in this
guide. Type terms in the query boxes, then combine terms using the pull-down menus to the left — choose AND to narrow your search, OR to broaden it. See the Help feature for more searching advice and tips. Search Operators (from broadest to narrowest) which you can use between search terms are: OR (requires either term to be in each record retrieved), AND (requires both terms to be in each record retrieved), WITH (requires both terms to be in the same field), and NEAR (requires both terms to be in the same sentence). To truncate a term, use an asterisk: for example, gene* will retrieve gene, genes, genetic, but also generation. |

| Click on Start to see results. Results are displayed in a brief format. |

| Click on the article title (blue) to see the
full display with abstract. At the top of the results list see the explanations for the
small squares to the left. If you choose relevance as the search mode, the percentages
above the squares note the relevance of each article listed. Check the empty squares to
mark those you want to print, e-mail, or download — see the blue Print Email
Save button in the left column (not shown in this image but is shown in the
previous image) for further instructions. WilsonWeb provides abstracts in the full display, but does not provide full text for every article listed. For any article for which full text is not available, click on the Search for Full-Text button to the immediate left of the article’s citation. You will immediately see if URI subscribes to the journal either in print or electronically. If the University Library only has a print subscription, ascertain that the issue you require is on shelf and, if so, note the call number. To return to your search results, close the window. |
