This guide covers the main print and electronic indexes in all disciplines of Engineering at URI. Indexes are the best tool for finding articles in periodical literature — journals and conferences — and many of the tools described also cover book chapters, theses, and a variety of other publications. Indexes always contain citations and subject terms; many provide other information such as abstracts and author affiliation.

Electronic access to the three sections of Science Abstracts, with indexing and abstracting of journal articles, conference proceedings, theses, and technical reports on software, hardware, electrical engineering, physics, and related topics from 1969-present. Earlier years available in paper for: Electrical & Electronics Abstracts at Ref Q1 .S3 SECT. B (1956-1968), and Physics Abstracts at Ref Q1 .S3 SECT. A (1921-1968).

Accessed through a client on the desktops in the computers in the Reference Online Center in the Library. URI has a "single user license," so it may be necessary to wait for access.

TOXNET (Toxicology Data Network).

Toxicology and hazardous substance resources from the National Library of Medicine. Contains TOXLINE, an index to toxicology literature covering 1980-present.

TRIS (Transportation Research Information Services).

Offered by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, this site indexes and abstracts transportation research covered in books, journals, and technical reports. Sources include federal, state, and local governments, plus associations. Coverage from mid-60s, with some pre-60s material. 1967, 1970-1978 available as HRIS Abstracts at Ref TE1 .N38.
