What is InRhode?

The InRhode Library Catalog at http://inrhode.uri.edu/ combines the catalog of the HELIN Consortium, HELIN, with Brown University’s catalog, JOSIAH. It is a single, unified database that provides access to the combined resources of nine academic institutions — over 4.1 million volumes.

The InRhode Catalog facilitates online borrowing between the Brown University Library and the libraries of the HELIN Consortium.

Who can use InRhode?

Anyone may search the InRhode Catalog.

Students, faculty and staff from any of the nine HELIN libraries and from Brown University may request books online with a valid library barcode.

How does one use InRhode?

The InRhode Catalog is accessible from either the HELIN Library Catalog or Brown's JOSIAH Library Catalog. After performing a search in HELIN or JOSIAH, the user can click on the “Search InRhode” button to automatically replicate their search in the InRhode Catalog. (A "Return to Home" button in InRhode will return the user to their home catalog.)

The user, viewing an item’s full bibliographic record, will notice that the screen will display that either one or two InRhode libraries has the item. (InRhode only recognizes two “libraries,” HELIN and JOSIAH.)

Eligible borrowers may request material by entering their name, library barcode, and a pick-up location, just as they do now for HELIN Loans.

Material requested by HELIN borrowers from JOSIAH or by JOSIAH borrowers from HELIN will be checked out to the borrower for 28 days, with NO RENEWALS. If the item is overdue, the borrower will receive three overdue notices, spaced at seven day intervals, with the third notice coming in the form of a bill. All material will be billed at $100.00 for each item.

Does this mean I can use Brown’s Library?

There is no on-site borrowing between Brown and HELIN libraries at this time.

If you would like physical access to the Brown University Libraries, please consult with a librarian at the Reference Desk.
