What’s New:
Lobby Display:
...A Book by its Cover

Featured in this month’s lobby display is a selection of book bindings from Special Collections and the shelves of the University of Rhode Island Libraries

What could be covered in leather, sheepskin, paper, metal, or even kangaroo?

Books! This month’s display showcases bookbinding techniques and books bound in unusual materials from the University of Rhode Island Library’s Special Collections.

See recycling in action (including an old map used to line another book), Fahrenheit 451 bound in aluminum, examples of Japanese bookbinding, and a
medical book with numerous sutures. Also included are examples of fine bindings as well as book bindings meant for the mass market.

This display was created by Amanda Izenstark, MLIS with assistance from Professor Sarina Wyant, Special Collections.
