The current display in the University Library lobby shows some of the places that the library budget is spent. High journal costs, damaged and stolen books, the financial impact of bringing food into the library, and the day to day costs of operation — all consume dollars from the budget. Some of these costs are unavoidable, but many could be reduced by more careful actions on the part of patrons. Something to think about the next time you are tempted to use a slice of bacon as a bookmark!
