“On Dirt”, this month’s lobby display, is a selection of print materials on soil science from the URI Library, as well as a variety of unique and interesting artifacts. Did you know that Rhode Island has an official State Soil? That all of the soils in Rhode Island have been mapped? “On Dirt” showcases maps of Rhode Island soils, soil science research journals, old and new books on the genesis, physics, chemistry, and ecology of soils, soil monoliths, and equipment and instrumentation used by soil scientist to sample and measure soil properties. Oh, and Rhody’s State Soil. This display was created by Jose Amador and Mark Stolt, of the Dept. of Natural Resources Science, with assistance from Mary MacDonald, Information Literacy Librarian. |
