Food for Fines Amnesty Week
April 18 – April 24

The three University of Rhode Island campus libraries located in Kingston, Narragansett, and Providence, will sponsor “Food for Fines Amnesty Week” from Sunday, April 18 through Saturday, April 24, 2004.

During the hours that the libraries are open, patrons may bring in canned goods or non-perishable items to be donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank instead of paying fines on overdue material.

The details

If you have current* URI regular book fines, fines from Interlibrary Loan, the Media Resources Center, or returned billed book fines, bring in an item to help out the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and you will receive forgiveness for your fines.

Your fines may be from any URI campus: Kingston, CCE (Providence), or Pell (Narragansett). Billed items and fines from URI Reserves or fines from other libraries within the HELIN consortium are NOT eligible for URI Amnesty Days.

Our suggested donation is one food item for every $10.00 in fines. Suggested foods include:

  • Canned tuna, salmon, chicken, turkey, beef stew, ham
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned fruits and vegetables, including juices, dried fruits
  • Red or brown beans - dried or canned
  • Milk - evaporated or powdered
  • Pasta, oatmeal, cereal, rice, macaroni & cheese

* Some restrictions apply. Call (401) 874-2672 for details.
