URI instructors of information literacy will sponsor Is That a Fact? Fact Checking in the Media on March 30, 2005, 4:30-6pm in room 271 of the Chafee Social Sciences Building on the Kingston campus. The forum is free and open to the public. Students and the public will learn from these professionals that critical thinking goes beyond checking the accuracy of sources for research papers to seeking credible information in their everyday lives, especially in the news media. Such discussions are an integral part of URIs LIB 120 Introduction to Information Literacy because they highlight how essential critical thinking is given the sheer amount of information today and the ease with which it can be manipulated.
