Reserves
The Reserves is located on the first floor of the Robert L. Carothers Library & Learning Commons at the Circulation Desk. The Reserves Collection contains material designated by University faculty as high-use or required readings for specific courses. Items on Reserve for a course may include books, articles from periodicals, or special items loaned by faculty. A number of high-use items unrelated to specific courses are also located on Reserve. Learn more about our Electronic Reserves Service!
Through the Library’s E-Reserves service, reserve material can be made available online.
Attention Faculty and Instructors: Reserves forms are now available for downloading in .pdf format!

Hours
The Reserves collection is available during regular Library Hours.

Eligible borrowers
Anyone possessing a valid library card may borrow materials from the Reserves Collection. Borrowing privileges will be denied to anyone with an outstanding library bill.

Restrictions on use
Restrictions are determined by the faculty member who placed the material on Reserve or by the Library’s Reserves staff.

Library Use Only:
2 hour loan. Items may not be taken out of the Library.
Closed Reserves:
2 hour loan. Items may not be taken out of the Library except when borrowed two hours before closing and returned within one hour of opening the next day.
Open Reserves:
Items may be taken out of the Library for periods ranging from one day to one week.

Borrowers are limited to two items at a time from the Reserves Collection.

How to request materials
Items on Reserve are listed in the HELIN library catalog. Items can be searched by course code, course title, and instructor. Materials on each list are arranged alphabetically by title. Step-by-step instructions on requesting materials on reserve or e-reserve can be found in the user guide “Accessing Reserve Material”.

Charge-out procedures
When charging out Library Use Only and Closed Reserve items, the borrower must leave his or her library card at the Reserves Desk until the item is returned. Library cards will not be held for Open Reserve items or for overnight loans.

Overdue items
The fine for overdue material is $1.00 per HOUR for Library Use Only and Closed Reserve items and $1.00 per DAY for Open Reserve items. Unpaid fines for overdue items will result in a suspension of borrowing privileges. An item overdue five days will be considered lost. The borrower will be billed for the average cost of an item plus a processing charge. Borrowing privileges are automatically suspended and sanctions will be applied by the registrar until the bill for the lost item(s) is settled. If an item is found and returned at a later time, a refund will be made for the price of the item with an overdue fine deducted.

Contact information
The contact person for Reserves is Liz Smith. Liz can be reached by e-mail at liz_smith@mail.uri.edu or by telephone at (401) 874-5855.
