This is a page from a school
journal kept by Sarah Ann Colt (1808-1829) while she attended the Miss Huntley
School in Hartford. It appears that it was perhaps was begun by Margaret
Colt (1806-1823). Margaret died of tuberculosis in 1823 and her sister,
Sarah Ann committed suicide by taking arsenic in 1829. No reference to
Margaret is found in the journal but the writing and disposition of the authors
as reflected in the journal entries is evident. That thought to have belonged to
Margaret is brightly illustrated throughout. Sarah's writing consists
of poems of death and suffering.
