Pretty as a ....
A selection  of Postcards 1906- ca 1930s from the University Archives and  URI Library Special Collections.

In concert with: an Exhibition in the University Library Gallery,  1st floor,
Picturesque Rhode Island

Postcards were first introduced into the United States during the 19th century; however these first cards, known as postals, were issued only by the United States government and were without pictures. It wasn’t until 1898 that private printers and publishers were granted permission in the United States to produce their own postcards. On display, 2nd floor,  URI Library Special Collections,  are a representation of postcards serving different purposes- from the promotional to the picturesque.

This exhibit, curated by S. Wyant, will run until the end of April, 2006.
Picturesque Rhode Island, curated by Russell DeSimone,
will run until end of March, 2006.
