The Appalachian dulcimer is made out of walnut with a maple inlay on the
peg head. I built it in 1972 and is one of seven dulcimers I made between
1971 and 1973 BC (Before Children). Appalachian dulcimers are played on the
lap. The right hand plucks the strings or strums with a pick (traditionally
with a quill) and the left hand plays the melody using a wooden dowel or
fingers.

The mandolin has mahogany back, sides and neck and a spruce top. The fret
board and peg head veneer are ebony with mother of pearl inlay. This is one
of three mandolins I made in the early 1990's. I built this one and another
at the same time taking about a year and a half to finish both.
