III PROCEDURES: HOW TO ADD AN 856 FIELD TO HELIN BIB RECORD The 856 field in the MARC Bib record provides a "hot link" from the cataloging record in the HELIN catalog (in Web mode) to the Internet version of an electronic journal. That is, when an 856 field is entered into the Bib record, it displays to the patron as a spot to click on which connects to the full text of the journal in electronic format. The 856 field contains the URL of the electronic journal and a phrase telling the patron to "click here to view" title of the journal. The 856 field may be available in the MARC record in OCLC to be downloaded into the HELIN record. The 856 can also be added directly to the Bibliographic record in HELIN, bypassing the download process. These procedures describe how to add the 856 field directly to the HELIN record:
To check your work, go to HELIN Web mode. Call up journal title. Verify that: View [journal title] appears in blue as a hot link in bib record. Click on the hot link to verify accuracy of the URL address.
