Associate Professor Andrée J. Rathemacher (A.B. Brown, M.L.I.S. University of Rhode Island, M.B.A. University of Rhode Island) joined the faculty of the University of Rhode Island Libraries in 1995.

From 1995 to 2003, she served as Reference/Bibliographer, Business in the Library’s Department of Public Services. In this role, she assisted library users at the Reference Desk, provided specialized reference assistance in business and related areas, developed guides to using library materials and databases, and taught sections of LIB 120 Introduction to Information Literacy and LIB 140 Special Topics in Information Literacy. She was also actively involved in developing and promoting the Library’s information literacy program.

In 2003, Andrée joined the Department of Technical Services as the Serials Librarian. As Head of the Serials Unit, she oversees the Library’s subscriptions to print and electronic journals, reference databases, and other materials of a serial nature. The University Library spends about $2 million a year on subscriptions to approximately 2,000 print periodicals, 4,000 online periodicals, and 65 online databases, many of which contain full text. With access to a total of almost 16,000 periodical titles online, the researcher is faced with a rich but confusing array of online information. To make identifying and connecting to online periodical information easier, the Serials Unit has implemented Serials Solutions’ e-journal Access and Management Suite and Article Linker. With an ever growing number of the Library’s periodical subscriptions converted to online-only format, the researcher is now able to search, read, and print articles directly from his computer at any time of day or night from anywhere in the world.

Andrée Rathemacher’s scholarship and professional activities have produced a book, a book chapter, an internationally acclaimed refereed article (that took a prestigious international award) among other refereed and non-refereed articles, book exhibits, and presented papers.  She has worked with the Rhode Island Library Association and was recently chair of the ACRL/NEC Business Librarians Interest GroupAndrée is also a member of the board of trustees of the South Kingstown Library System.

Andrée serves as subject selector and the Library's liaison to the College of Business Administration, the Schmidt Labor Research Center, the Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, and the Department of Economics.  In addition, she acts as the Library's Webmaster.
