David C. Maslyn

University Archivist and Head of Special Collections

Professor David C. Maslyn  came to the University of Rhode Island in 1974 to establish the department of special collections.   He graduated with a B.A. from St. Bonaventure University (1960).  He received an M.A. in Russian History (1963) and an M.S.L.S. (1968) from Syracuse University.

Professor Maslyn has been a professional archivist since 1964 and is a Charter Member of the Academy of Certified Archivists. He is active in archival education, state archival committees, and acts as a consultant for archival projects.

Professor Maslyn taught generations of future R.I. archivists with his popular courses in the URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, and continues to archive and analyze the papers of Rhode Island public officials such as former R.I. governors as well as such notables as Senators Chafee and Pell.
