Judith B. Barnett
Cataloger for the Marine
Sciences
Judith
B. Barnett joined the URI faculty in 1971 and was promoted to Full
Professor in 1992. She holds a B.A. from Barnard College (magna cum
laude), and a M.S. in Library Science from Drexel University, graduating
first in her class. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and of Beta Phi
Mu, the library science honor society.
She catalogs the books, journals,
electronic resources and other materials of the Pell Marine Science
Library. Her research focuses on the bibliography of marine science
journals and serials. She has published one book and numerous articles
on this topic, as well as on the cataloging of technical reports and the
role of OCLC peer groups on cataloging quality control.
A recent article covers price increases in marine science
journals. She reviews new marine science books for Library
Journal, and has
contributed the chapter on marine science and technology for many
editions of the reference work Magazines for Libraries.
