  7. Selective Journal Holdings: SCI/SSCI provide rankings of scholarly journals based on a number of categories. The following is the ranking published in Journal Citation Reports for 1998, by impact factor:
Subject # of titles URI Holdings URI holdings of top ten URI holdings of 11-20

    1. Speech-language pathology: The Medical Library Association sponsored research to help determine a core journal literature for speech-language pathology published as "Mapping the literature of speech-language pathology" by Linda G. Slater and John W. Scott in Bull.Med Libr Assoc, 85(3), July, 1997, p.297-302. This study states "As the results indicate, there is a very small core of journals in the area of speech-language pathology. Three titles represent a third of the citations appearing in the four journals scanned; thirty eight represent another third; and 840 represent the final third."[300]. URI holds the three titles in the top tier, and 26 of the 38 titles in the second tier, providing more than substantial and significant coverage of the journal literature for the CMD program.
    2. Audiology: In "A use study of speech pathology and audiology periodicals at Illinois State University" by Nancy Duran, et.al. in Bull.Med.Libr.Assoc, 85(4), Oct., 1997, p.373-377, a ranked list by use is provided of 33 titles, of which 15 are held by URI [6 out of the top ten].
