Second Floor

2nd floor plan

Media Room

The Media Resources Center is located next to Special Collections near the main stairway on the Second Floor. There you’ll find the library’s collection of videos, DVDs, and other audiovisual materials.

Televisions with cable tv, VCRs, DVD players, and headphones are available for viewing media and videos. Audiotape and compact disk players are also available for use in the Media Room.

The Microform section is located outside of the Media Room. Microform is a generic term for a format that contains reduced-size images of pages from paper copy. Viewers are available for enlarging and printing the materials. The collection includes back issues of periodicals as well as some books and series reproduced on microform.

Special Collections

Turn right out of the main stairway on the Second Floor and you’ll find Special Collections. As the name implies, this area houses material that requires special storage apart from the general collection.

In Special Collections you’ll find the University Archives, the Rhode Island Collection, rare books, the manuscripts collection and the New Leaves Press. This area is open weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and its materials must be used in the Special Collections Reading Room.

General Stacks Q - Z

Much of the Second Floor contains some of the general circulating collection. Books beginning with the Library of Congress Call Numbers Q through Z are shelved here. This includes material in the sciences. (Books beginning with the letters A-P are located on the Third Floor.)
