The University of Rhode Island Diversity Awards celebrate students, student organizations, faculty, administrators and staff who have demonstrated an emerging, sustained or lifetime commitment to community leadership, academic excellence and service in promoting diversity and multiculturalism. These individuals work in promoting human difference as assets. The Diversity Award is to acknowledge their contribution towards building and sustaining an equitable and multicultural community at URI.

Nomination Process

• There are 7 categories for nomination.

• Undergraduate students have 3 categories.

• Typically 2 awards are given in each category.

Special Instructions for Nominators:

• Information provided by your nomination (or what you submit) is the MAIN source of information for review of your Nominee.

• A supplemental sheet is sent to the Nominee to gain more information BUT it is NOT mandatory that Nominees fill this form out.

• We STRONGLY encourage Nominators to solicit as much information from Nominees or other sources familiar with the Nominee so that a complete and sufficient nomination is submitted.

• Recipient must participate in recorded video interview (to be presented during Banquet) and attend the URI Diversity Award Banquet on April 16, 2013 to receive award.

Nomination process and timeline:

• 02/04/13 - All nominations are submitted online.
  

• 02/05/13 - Nominees will be informed and sent a Nominee Response Sheet for completion.

• 02/13/13 - Nominees return completed Nominee Response Sheet.

• 03/08/13 - Final decisions made regarding recipients.

• 03/11/13 to 3/27/13 - Recipients participate in recorded interview to be presented during 4/16/13 Banquet.

Who is eligible to nominate or be nominated:

• All members of the URI campus community are eligible to nominate and be nominated.

• Nominations are open to any and all members of the campus community whose outstanding contributions in multicultural leadership and/or service have benefited the campus community.

• These awards are not just limited to members of multicultural groups.
