Diversity Week 2001
Promising Scholars: Graduate Student Symposium on Diversity
On behalf of the Multicultural Center and the Diversity Week Planning Committee, we are extending an invitation to all departments and graduate programs to nominate graduate students to participate in the 1st Annual Promising Scholars: Graduate Student Symposium on Diversity. The symposium is sponsored jointly 
by the URI Multicultural Center and the Psychology Department during Diversity Week, October 1-5, 2001. Selected nominees will be asked to conduct a brief presentation featuring their scholarly research during the symposium program 
and will receive a certificate of recognition. Please lend your support by encouraging faculty to nominate promising and deserving graduate students, and by attending the symposium.

 

Goals:            To RECOGNIZE graduate students in various disciplines as 
promising scholars whose scholarly research contributes to our knowledge of diversity and promotes multicultural understanding.

 

                        To ENCOURAGE graduate students at URI to consider the
 important influences of culture and diversity in thesis and 
dissertation research.

 

                        To PROMOTE interdisciplinary linkages between departments and programs around multicultural and diversity issues in ways that 
enhance the graduate student experience.

When:              Monday, October 1, 2001, at 3:30 ¨C 5:45 p.m.

Where:            Multicultural Center, Hardge Forum

Eligibility:     Graduate students from all disciplines are eligible to participate. Graduate program or department faculty must nominate students 
using the attached form.  Nominees should be currently enrolled and
 in good standing in their respective programs, and engaging in scholarly research appropriate to their field.  Graduate students at 
all levels are welcome, however those students whose thesis or dissertation research projects are in progress or completed are encouraged to participate. The symposium is particularly designed 
to recognize students whose research has the potential for 
contributing to our knowledge of human diversity and promoting multicultural understanding.

 

Nominations:  Nominations are due no later than August 31st, 2001
                           Return attached form to
the Diversity Week Symposium
                           Committee, Multicultural Center, 74 Lower College Road, 
                           OR submit online : nomination form.

Selection:     The Diversity Week Planning Committee will review all nominations 
 and students with appropriate research topics will be notified and   invited to participate.
