The Sixth Annual Diversity Week is quickly approaching and this years events are bigger and better than ever! We have been working hard to plan an organized and accessible week of workshops and presentations. To view the entire Diversity Week 2002 schedule, click here

Diversity Week, to be celebrated throughout campus October 7-11, 2002, is brimming with events and activities for URI faculty, students, and staff. One of the most exciting days in Diversity Week 2002 is on Wednesday, October 9. This year, the Wednesday Workshops have been arranged into five thematic categories. These include; Telling the Story, Peace Building/Uses of Power, Social Justice, Campus Advocacy, Diversity on the Web

We have strived to provide a diverse and stimulating program and as such, there are workshops and presentations that speak to every student, faculty, or staff member on campus. For instance, topics in this years Diversity Week range from a Grounding and Centering Workshop, to a world renowned Portuguese recording artist, to the Laramie Project, a film and discussion session exploring the meaning of community and the campaign to overcome hate, bigotry and violence.

All members of the campus community benefit from workshop themes such as Diversity on the Web and Campus Advocacy. Not a single field of study is exempt from globalization, and we have to begin at home by strengthening the individual skills that are necessary to cope with these changes. Clearly, the themes of Wednesday’s Workshops are directly related to the social science curricula; however, any academic discipline benefits from learning about “Employment in an Age of Development, “Work and Family Life,?or “Globalization, Culture, and the Use of Power.?/p>

We invite you to participate in this year’s Diversity Week by attending sessions, bringing classes to workshops, working a theme into your course curricula, or by simply spurring discussion with friends and family.

Enjoy,

The Diversity Week Planning Committee
