RE:   Promising Scholars: Graduate Student Symposium on Diversity
  On behalf of the Multicultural Center and the Diversity Week Planning Committee, we are extending an invitation to all departments and graduate programs to nominate graduate students to participate in the 5th Annual Promising Scholars: Graduate Student Symposium on Diversity. The symposium is sponsored jointly by the URI Multicultural Center and the Psychology Department during Diversity Week, September 26th ¨C 30th, 2005. Selected nominees are asked to provide a brief presentation featuring their scholarly work during the symposium program and will receive a certificate of recognition. Please lend your support by encouraging promising and deserving graduate student to apply to participation this annual symposium.
Goals: 

To RECOGNIZE graduate students in various disciplines as promising scholars whose scholarly research contributes to our knowledge ofdiversity and promotes multicultural understanding.

 

To ENCOURAGE graduate students at URI to consider the important influences of culture and diversity in thesis and dissertation research.

 

To PROMOTE interdisciplinary linkages between departments and programs around multicultural and diversity issues in ways that enhance the graduate student experience.
When:  Monday, September 26, 2005, at 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Where:   Multicultural Center, Hardge Forum
Eligibility:  Graduate students from all disciplines are eligible to participate. We invite graduate program and department faculty nominate students using the attached form. Students can self nominate. Nominees should be currently enrolled and in good standing in their respective programs, and engaging in scholarly research appropriate to their field. Graduate students at all levels are welcome, however those students whose thesis or dissertation research projects are underway are encouraged to participate. Proposals and works in progress are also acceptable. The symposium is particularly designed to recognize students whose research has the potential for contributing to our knowledge of human diversity and promoting multicultural understanding.

Nominations: Nominations are due no later than FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th, 2005. Return attached form to the Diversity Week Symposium Committee, Multicultural Center, 74 Lower College Road, OR submit the form below.
Selection: The Diversity Week Planning Committee will review all nominations and students with appropriate research topics will be notified of their acceptance to participate.
